'Black Sun' Exhibition at Tokyo's Diesel Shibuya Store

Tokyo recently saw the opening of ‘Black Sun’ in its newly arrived Diesel Shibuya store. Exhibiting in the gallery space, Fannie Schiavoni and the influential, British contemporary artist Simon Henwood collaborated to produce a showpiece collection of their artwork. Alongside this, Fannie Schiavoni morphed the classic Diesel jean design by customising it with her distinctive chainmail.

The SS2011 collection featured manipulaton and careful coordination of scales, feather like pieces and chain mail all cleverly entwined together. Fannie's designs were welcomed and appreciated.

Fannie Schiavoni who is quickly becoming an international phenomenon has now caught the eyes of famous designers Dolce and Gabanna. The designers, who are set to launch a platform in favour of new and emerging talents to highlight their work have exclusively selected Fannie Schiavoni's genius chain mail to showcase at their new retail outlet in Milan via Spiga.
Fannie Schiavoni's designs have been such a hit they have quickly become a favourite of the Dolce and Gabanna designers who stated "We wanted to create a new, special place, unique in the world," Dolce and Gabbana told WWD. "With this project, we give the emerging designers we have handpicked from all over the world visibility, offering them a real opportunity."

Designs featured in the store are, a series of chain necklaces that connect two Road Warrior-cum-Xena Warrior Princess armoured epaulets to the shoulders: layered metal scales like shingled aluminium guitar picks.

There were 21 total, some of London’s best up-and-coming designers: Jean-Pierre Braganza, Mark Fast, Holly Fulton, Louise Gray, Eun Jeong, Mary Katrantzou, Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff (of Meadham Kirchhoff), Craig Lawrence, Michael Lewis, James Long, Todd Lynn, Hannah Marshall, Maria Francesca Pepe, Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos (of Peter Pilotto), Christopher Raeburn, Heikki Salonen, Fannie Schiavoni, Tim Soar,Sasko Bezovski and Marjan Pejoski (of KTZ) and Atalanta Weller. Plus, in this talented mix was London-based Vogue contributing editor Sarah Mower,who, as Ambassador for Emerging Talent at the British Fashion Council, helped them set up shop in the penthouses at the Soho Grand hotel where the designers showed their fall collections to buyers and press who may not have had a chance to see them in Europe" -vogue.com
